Third-party nodes have to be checked individually for GDPR suitability.
Self-hosting offers full data control, unlimited executions and EU locations. n8n Cloud takes care of setup and maintenance but is usually located outside the EU.
For companies with data protection requirements, self-hosting on EU servers is the common choice.

Systems without a native node are connected via REST API, webhook or database access.
n8n is open source and self-hostable, Zapier and Make run as SaaS. With n8n there are therefore no execution limits, and ongoing licence costs do not rise with volume.
